Kara is a (mostly) self-taught metalsmith and enamellist. Gravitating to botanical motifs and floral inspired pieces. She uses her background in graphic design and illustration to create one of a kind unique and beautiful cloisonne' enamel jewelry. Always having a fascination and love of jewelry, Kara decided to try her hand at silversmithing. Through trial and many errors, and then some classes, she learned how to use a torch and tools. This was the beginning of an incredible journey. In 2012 Kara was juried into a metalworker's guild in Lexington, Ma. There, she was surrounded by like-minded artists and given to opportunity to grow and develop her talents as a jewelry maker.
It was there that she discovered the art of enameling. The process of layering ground glass onto fine silver. These two materials are fused in a kiln at 1460 degrees and made into the most wonderful little treasures.
Kara continues to be inspired by nature and all things botanical/floral. In particular the Lotus is a great source of inspiration. Symbolizing renewal and rebirth, Kara's work is meant to remind the wearer, that each day is a new day. Each night is a time to reflect and rejuvenate us. In the morning, we have a chance to begin again.
